research,Tamar Mogendorff

Tamar Mogendorff
Born & raised in Israel now based in N Y.
Tamar's dolls are inspired by the handicrafts of her grandma, she uses vintage fabrics and antique buttons & beads to create her twee little works of art.Tamar's bird cages are another example of the hard/soft theme ,the cage structure which in reality is a hard material is represented in a soft floral fabric .I love any thing twee and vintage florals really appeal to me , i also love the colour choice of Tamar's work its definitely right up my street!

Research,Susan Graham

Susan Graham
U S A based in N Y
Susan produces sculpture, photography and installations. I think these animal sculpture are charming i love the lines and shapes that appear sketch like.
Very simple and straight forward yet intricate use of woven materials.Susan's sculptures are also interesting to me because i have been researching artists who use knitting with wire in their work. This research was for my summer brief for critical studies , i have found that knitting with mixed media can create some facinating structures and sculptures similar to the work produced by Susan Graham.
These sculptures also represent the hard/soft theme in that the animals who have soft fur or feathers are created in a hard material.

research,Rosie James

Rosie James U K
She likes to use stitch as a way of drawing with her sewing machine.Rosie sometimes uses hand stitch & screen printing in her work. The drawings created with stitch are very different to those produced with a pencil ,personally i think they are fantastic.

research,Joetta Maue

Joetta Maue
I think Joetta's work is lovely ,she is inspired by the turmoil of emotions experienced by humans ,the ups & downs of life, she uses text in her resent work which you can see on her website. I really like the use of old fabrics in neutral tones and the way Joetta creates a narrative in stitch it is very clever and very striking.

research,Karen Searle

Karen Searle
U K textile artist,Karen has written a book about contemporary artists who use knitting as their craft of choice.I discovered Karen whilst researching for my essay over the summer for critical studies. Her sculptures are created with knitted or crocheted materials and are unusual and eye catching.Having read more about Karen's work i now appreciate that the use of knitting as a way to create art and structures is a definite possibility, some thing that i had not previously considered.
