Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair , Springfield's, Manchester 22ND to 24 Th October.
This was the third year of this event which gave over 150 designer makers the platform to sell their high quality craft products.The items on offer ranged from ceramics, glass, jewellery, interiors and fashion textiles, wood furniture and more.
There was also an area dedicated to the best new graduates work ( 'Great Northern Graduates').
and also some jewellery making workshops from Magpie Arts .
I loved the Fair , again i felt very much at home in the relaxed atmosphere which was similar to Origins in London . The craftspeople are much more chilled and approachable than the cutting edge designer types i have encountered at other commercial design shows.The display areas where much smaller than the London show and the whole fair was housed in two large tents which were temporary erected for the show. Each designer was given the same amount of space to display their work and i observed that most designers kept the displays very clean , simple and uncluttered all the stands were white and most people opted not to change them . Maxine Sutton had a stand at the show and i was able to chat to her briefly , she was rather busy dealing with customers which is great so obviously i did not want to disturbed her too much , i did take note of how she had displayed her work and observed that she had utilised her small space really well, she had managed to fit a lot of different items into the stand with out making it look over crowded . Her work ranged in price from £4 for a pack of 8 post cards up to £360 for a one off framed art piece.
